Vincencia Toma, a resident of Radamata Village in Kota Tambulaka District, South West Sumba, has shared how the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program has positively impacted her daily life. Being pregnant with a four-year-old child, Vincencia mentioned how the program has brought significant benefits to both her and her child. Previously, they had limited breakfast options, but with the introduction of the MBG program, her child now enjoys and finishes every meal provided. Vincencia, who has been receiving these free meals for nine days, also highlighted the delicious taste and nutritional value of the meals for her child. She added that the program has helped in enhancing her family’s eating habits and managing food distribution throughout the day.
As a nine-month pregnant woman, Vincencia is part of the group of pregnant and breastfeeding mothers that directly benefit from the MBG nutrition service kitchens in her village. She expressed her appreciation for the government’s initiative in offering free and nutritious food to rural mothers and children, emphasizing the positive impact it has on ensuring children receive meals rich in protein and diversity. Vincencia shared her optimism for the continuity of the program, believing in its significance in improving community health.
Under the management of the Tambolaka Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), the MBG program in Southwest Sumba is dedicated to providing meals to schools and health posts, specifically focusing on pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers. By incorporating locally sourced ingredients and promoting balanced nutrition, the program aims to address health issues and reduce stunting rates in the region. Vincencia’s experience serves as a prime example of how the MBG program is making a positive impact on numerous families in South West Sumba.
